Letterpress coasters are such a fun way to commemorate an important event. They're great for any celebration, whether it be a 60th birthday party or an announcement for a wedding yet to come. Say thanks with bespoke letterpress stationery

We print many custom stationery sets during the holiday. They make wonderful gifts, perfect for sending out thank you notes, post-holiday. Here are a few we particularly enjoyed designing and printing in 2014. custom-classic-monogram-stationery-sesame-letterpress

These notecards feature an assortment of blues and grays, perfectly matching the cloudy January sky.

Initials always look great in letterpress, whether they are small and sleek or larger and more decorative. Adding an image is a great idea, especially if it's as cute as this carefree rabbit taking a leap over such a fancy monogram.

Seeing green: A winter California wedding

This fall we designed and printed a beautiful set of art nouveau inspired wedding invitations for a couple in southern California. They started things off sweet with a bookmark sized Save the Date, printed in a warm gold and green combination. gold-green-letterpress-save-the-date-bookmark-sesame

The invitation features a delicate border of dark green vines that accent the fine lines in the type. A wreath-decorated home was the perfect image for their intimate reception.

The gold ribbon woven through the wreath is a sweet, little detail that makes this response card stand out. The simplicity of this letterpress wedding suite is what makes it such a nice sight. It's all in the details!

Feeling Blue: Ikat Wedding Invitation

We recently remixed one of our tried and true, and a little blue wedding invitation designs. Ikat patterns are very popular, and we know why! This soft blue dot pattern is sweet and modern, perfect for a casual wedding. We can just imagine being at an intimate summer wedding by the sea. blue-ikat-dot-letterpress-wedding-sesame navy-blue-ikat-dot-letterpress-wedding-invitation-sesame

We made a short video, documenting the process of printing this 2-color wedding invite. A word of warning; the sounds of the press clicking and clacking are slightly hypnotic and may cause drowsiness.

2015 Sesame Letterpress Calendars

For the last four years, we've been letterpress printing our small boxed calendars and we think 2015 is our best, yet! Throughout the year, we set aside images that inspire us for our upcoming calendar and match them to the appropriate months. This new calendar features some of our favorites, such as the gray tea kettle in January, a turquoise March egg and a trio of bright April umbrellas. The set also includes a page to note your resolutions for the year. Whether you choose to display your resolutions with pride or keep them hidden (in case you fall back to your chocolate addiction) is up to you...

This year we added a second letterpress calendar to our collection. Inspired by a set of custom botanical coasters that we printed, this single sheet wall calendar features beautiful, vintage floral etchings. We kept it simple with rich, black ink on off-white butcher paper from French Paper Co. for an antique inspired design. We added a single line of gold foil type because we just couldn't resist a bit of shimmer this time of year.

Both calendars are available on our website shop. If you're looking for a sweet, last minute gift, we can wrap and send them directly to your loved ones.

Thanksgiving Gatherings and Gifts

Are you ready for some turkey? (We're ashamed to say that was sung to the tune of the Monday night football theme.) We're not sure how it happened, but Thanksgiving is only days away. Between pouring over recipes on the internet and cooking up some truly delicious letterpress goods, we haven't had time to figure out what we're bringing to dinner this year! If you're hosting Thanksgiving this year, send your guests home with cute homemade doggy bags, filled with a leftover turkey sandwich and a piece of pumpkin pie. You'll gain some space in your fridge, and your guests will go home happy!

Provisions by Food52 is a great resource for unique products for your home. If you're heading to a friend's home for your Thanksgiving festivities, nothing says thanks for the stuffing like this handmade porcelain pitcher. Or show your appreciation with this adorable whisk necklace or a set of our letterpress holiday coasters.

Maybe you're hosting this year and are trying to put together the perfect table setting. Try having your guests write down what they're thankful for on one of our letterpress tags and share their thoughts during dessert. They also come in handy at the table as place cards. It's a lovely, personalized touch for planning your seating at dinner.

This year, we're making an effort to buy our holiday gifts from small, local businesses. It just feels better to purchase something from a business in your community than a big box store. We'll be celebrating Small Business Saturday from Thanksgiving to Sunday, the 30th. Get a 10% discount of your entire order from our website using the code SBS2014.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Custom Letterpress Holiday Greetings

It's hard to believe but the holidays are just around the corner! It seems like just yesterday we were brainstorming the perfect Halloween costume (do we go pop culture phenomenon or classically creepy this year?). But before we know it, the dishes from Thanksgiving feasts will be piling up in the sink. One of our favorite traditions of the holiday season is the exchange of cards and letters. The process of creating a custom holiday card involves equal parts work and fun. It may all begin on the computer but always ends up in the hands of our printers who expertly cut the paper to size, mix beautiful ink colors and print each layer.

Matte gold and elegant black invitations

Make yourself comfortable because this blog post is going to feature quite a bumper haul of gorgeous photos. We loved designing this set of wedding stationery because it features unexpected and somewhat whimsical fonts with really classic, beautiful color choices. The result is a simply beautiful selection of letterpress printed pieces... gold-black-script-calgary-letterpress-wedding-invite-suite

To add some extra visual interest, each card has a slightly different feel: the invitation is pared back and simple, the rehearsal dinner invitation features a dotted border and a selection of the other cards have motifs that are relevant to the location and atmosphere of each event. Confetti!

What could be more perfect for a wedding invitation design than the inclusion of printed confetti? This brand new design is equal parts joyful and charming: carolyna-script-confetti-dots-coral-letterpress-wedding-invitation-brooklyn

The blend of large and small dots perfectly captures the effect of falling confetti and really complements the sweet, cursive Carolyna font.

This design works particularly well as a two-color print with one quite neutral hue (like the cool gray pictured here) and the other a more vivid, vibrant color (like this amazing fluorescent orange!)

Matte Gold Wedding Suite

We just finished printing this wedding set for a lovely couple who are getting married in Italy. We're jealous: all that wonderful food, gorgeous views and la dolce vita! They decided to have the set printed in our matte gold ink: we love how this hue is the perfect blend of elegant and understated.

They selected a few of illustrations from our image library to give an extra level of customization to their invitation:

We love the little heart lockets and we also really like how the simple heart silhouette looks as a blind-embossed pressed image:

Without ink, it just highlights the quality of the impression.

Congratulations Maegan and Eric!

Things we love: Edward Gorey Illustrations

We wanted to add a new series to our blog entitled "things we love". Our aim is to highlight gorgeous design outside of the letterpress world that gets our hearts racing. Sometimes we find inspiration in really unusual places. So we're kicking off with an introduction to the illustration of Edward Gorey.

Gorey was a prolific writer and illustrator whose work was both elegant and sometimes macabre.

We love his whimsical drawings and we are always taken by the way he puts colors together.

Here are some more examples of his book covers...

Our color range

When we work with clients to design and print their stationery, we are always careful to ensure that there is clarity around our colors. Sometimes, we'll get an e-mail from a client who asks us to match an online color. This is really difficult: different computer monitors have a massive impact on how the colors look. We much prefer to be sent an actual, tangible color swatch. That way, we can match the exact Pantone color. With this in mind, we've also been working on printing color swatches:

We love how these mini-tree prints look when they are all arranged together. We've been handing them to our clients so that they can flick through, get a sense of how the color looks when it has been printed and also place colors together to see what complements what!

Here's another shot from a different angle:

Which is your favorite?
