We designed and printed these Save the Dates for a birthday party at the American Museum of Natural History, here in NYC. The design was inspired by vintage circus posters, complete with a banner carrying elephant. The elephant was letterpress printed in silver, and has a bit of shine that plays well with the bright red of the text. We can just imagine how fun a night at the museum would be - hopefully without any dinosaurs or elephants springing to life.
One of my 2014 resolutions is to carve out time each month to step out of the studio and see more art. New York City has so much to offer and it is wonderful to spend a day (or even a few hours) being inspired. In attempt to make up for lost time, a friend and I visited two museums last week - The Metropolitan Museum and the Frick Collection (also one of our favorite clients!). It would be impossible to see every work in their galleries so we focused on the Northern European still-life paintings, a favorite subject of mine. It was delightful and I went home inspired to add another couple cards to our "Painted Still-Life" series. The Swans would be particularly nice for Valentine's Day!
We love the gorgeous glass work of artist Dale Chihuly so we were thrilled to be given the opportunity to print coasters featuring Chihuly's drawings for the new Dale Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum at the Seattle Center.
We printed four designs and these are packed together and sold at the museum's shop as a set of 8 coasters. It is such a treat to be able to collaborate with artists we admire to create letterpress pieces. If I ever make it to Seattle, this will be my first stop!
