Ordering Wedding Invitations

When you work with Sesame Letterpress, you are supporting a small, woman-owned and operated business. Our antique presses are from the 1880s and each card will be printed one at a time using this traditional method of letterpress printing.

Our Pricing

Our prices include design, multiple rounds of revisions and then letterpress printing on deluxe, heavyweight 184lb reclaimed cotton paper.

Below our pricing is an overview of our ordering and design process.

3. Place a deposit

If you decide to move forward, you’ll place a $250 deposit to begin the design process. After making your deposit, you will receive a link to your client portal with helpful resources including wording suggestions and a form to gather your wedding details and text.

4. design process

If you’d like to talk through any questions, we can schedule a 30 min phone meeting. Once we have your wedding details, we’ll need a week to create your first set of design proofs. This will show each piece in your suite. We’ll email this to you for your feedback. We'll be collaborating closely from here to perfect your designs.  Our pricing includes up to 3 rounds of revisions.

5. Approval & Printing

Once you sign off on the final design and pay the invoice for the balance, we will print your invitations and ship them to you in 2-3 weeks.

6. Timing

We recommend ordering your invitations at least 8 weeks before you’d like to have them in hand. We want you to love your custom stationery and enjoy the design process. Having more time to make design decisions will keep the process stress-free for you and it will give us more time to carefully design your invitations.

Questions?

Most of the answers to frequently asked questions can be found on our FAQ page. Here are a few additional questions specific to wedding invitation ordering.

How much can we customize the designs in the collection?
Toggle

You can select the ink colors and for many designs, you can change the images. View our Customizing page for these options. You can also combine elements from different suites. If you prefer the font style of one design but the imagery of another, we can combine them.

What’s the difference between ordering from the collection or opting for a totally new design?
Toggle

The designs in our collection can be customized as noted above. However, if you are looking for a very different style invitation or you don’t see any examples or images you like, your project may fall into a more bespoke pricing category. Please note that the design process for bespoke stationery is more involved so it will take longer to produce and there are additional charges to cover custom design, image sourcing and various other individual processes.

When should we order our invitations?
Toggle

The sooner the better! As soon as you have confirmed the date, time, location and have selected a design, please reach out! We recommend beginning the design process at least 8 weeks before you’d like to mail your invitations. In general, the more time you have to work through this process, the more you will enjoy it!

Can you do rush orders?
Toggle

Depending on our schedule, we can occasionally accommodate rush orders. The fee for this is an additional 25% (of the total suite price).

How do I know what cards I need in my suite?
Toggle

Your client portal includes a pdf to walk you through each piece in a suite so you can determine whether you need it and how to phrase the wording. When we start working together, we’ll give you a form to fill in with your wording and this helps walk you through the components in a typical suite so you can decide which you need. If you’re unsure of where to put some information or how to phrase something on a card, we’re happy to help.

Do you do calligraphy or print guest addresses on the envelopes?
Toggle

We‘ll print your return address on the flap of your invitation envelope. If you would like to have your guests’ addresses written on the envelopes, we can recommend a calligrapher. If you prefer digitally printing your guests names and addresses, we’ll connect you with a business that does this and in your portal, you can download their spreadsheet for formatting your guest list. We’d mail the envelopes directly there when the time comes.

How much lead time do we need for envelope addressing?
Toggle

Envelope addressing typically takes a couple of weeks. You will want to keep this in mind when ordering.

Can we use colored envelopes or colored paper?
Toggle

Your client portal will have a color guide showing the options for envelopes and liners. We can help you choose a colored envelope that corresponds with your ink color or overall color theme. The cost is roughly 30% higher as we’re buying smaller quantities and having them shipped. For the invitation cards, we typically recommend that you use one of our Savoy papers that we keep in stock. This paper is made specifically for letterpress printing and takes the impression most beautifully.

What are my options for adding ribbon, belly bands, lined envelopes or a wax seal?
Toggle

Once we understand your invitation style, colors and the components in the suite, we can recommend the embellishments that will complement the design. You’ll have a style guide in your client portal showing these options and links to images. Our cotton paper has a beautiful surface and the debossed letterpress impression is so special that you won’t need to add too many extra decorative elements to make the suite special. Sometimes the simplest designs in letterpress are the most elegant. We'll be working closely with you and we can recommend elements like these when the time comes, if you're interested.
